A Beautiful Mt. Dulcimer

made by Moses Schribner

for David Schnauffer

This is the finest dulcimer that I have ever had the chance to play. The wood is curly koa with ebony fretboard and Ivory nut and bridge. The inlay is abalone also the purfling. It Has gold Schaller tuners, strap buttons and built in pickup. It comes in a hard case.

David Schnauffer was a studio musician in Nashville and headlined at many festivals throughout the 1990s and was on the faculty as a professor of Dulcimer  at Vanderbilt University in Nashville until his untimely death. He played this dulcimer on all of his early albums and its picture is featured on Dulcimer Sessions and several other of his albums. It was played by Cindi Lauper on several recordings.

What you may not know is that David was from Texas and went to college in Texas. He bought his first dulcimer at a music store in Austin and spent several months “thumbing” back and forth to Austin for free dulcimer lessons. The inlaid abalone star on the head is a reference to the Lone Star State, his home state.

I attained this beautiful dulcimer in 1996 and have enjoyed playing, recording and performing with it. but now I must let it go. I don’t want to publish a price but will sell it by private contract. Please contact me by email: peggycarter77@gmail.com. If you would like to place a bid, text: 713-906-1215 with your bid and I’ll call you back.
